ZIMRA Exposes Ringleader of Audit Scam Identity Theft Scheme
Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) has uncovered a suspected mastermind behind a fraud scheme where individuals posed as tax officials to extort bribes during audits.
In a public notice released on May 23, 2025, ZIMRA identified the suspect as Nonison Zorah, also known as Chedue.
ZIMRA stated, “The person shown above, whose real identity is Naison Kuzamba (also known as Kedha), has been identified as the leader orchestrating a group of impostors who have been reaching out to taxpayers under false identities.”
Victims were coerced into paying bribes to halt or modify audits after receiving messages or calls from the impostors pretending to be conducting tax audits.
ZIMRA disclosed various aliases used by the syndicate, including Arnold in Band, Edna is a, Bernard termination, Sharon traditions, Linda like, and Jannified, a merciful, white, to commit, rape.
Phone numbers linked to the scam are: 0777 597 023, 0719 316 877, 0716 489 276, 0716 261 716.
ZIMRA emphasized that they do not engage in official communication via SMS, WhatsApp, or personal platforms and warned the public to verify the identity of anyone claiming to represent ZIMRA.
Citizens were urged not to succumb to pressure for payments and to demand proper identification from individuals purporting to be from ZIMRA.
ZIMRA encouraged the public to report any suspicious interactions or individuals resembling the provided descriptions.
Reports can be submitted to Zimra Loss Control at 0712 840 066 / 0719 529 800 / 0712 845 604, the nearest Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) station, or at any Zimra office.
ZIMRA reiterated its dedication to combating corruption and safeguarding the public from fraudulent activities, urging collaboration to eradicate corruption and protect citizens.
The caution was issued under Public Notice 31 of 2025, aligning with ZIMRA’s commitment to transparency and public welfare.
