“World’s First” Liquid Hydrogen Corridor to Connect Oman, the Netherlands, and Germany
April 16, 2025, by Aida Cučuk

A groundbreaking joint development agreement (JDA) has been inked to create the inaugural liquid hydrogen corridor that will link Oman, the Netherlands, and Germany. This corridor will establish a connection between the Port of Duqm in Oman, the Port of Amsterdam in the Netherlands, and key logistics centers in Germany, such as the Port of Duisburg, to facilitate the large-scale importation of renewable fuel of non-biological origin (RFNBO) compliant liquid hydrogen into Europe.
A total of eleven entities are part of this agreement, including significant players like Oman’s national green hydrogen coordinator Hydrom, Oman’s energy conglomerate OQ, Dutch steel manufacturer Tata Steel, German logistics and transportation company Hamburger Hafen und Logistik, and Dutch firm Hynetwork, consolidating all crucial elements for the envisioned supply chain.
The agreement encompasses various essential components for the corridor’s development, including the establishment of a centralized liquefaction, storage, and export facility at the Port of Duqm, a pivotal hub for Omani-produced green hydrogen. It also involves discussions on pricing and delivery of liquid hydrogen to buyers in the wider Amsterdam area and other locations in the Netherlands and Germany, with German EnBW acting as the aggregator. Furthermore, dedicated infrastructure will be developed along the corridor, encompassing export and import facilities at the ports of Duqm, Amsterdam, and Duisburg, as well as various distribution methods for gaseous and liquid hydrogen.
Dutch Minister for Climate and Green Growth, Sophie Hermans, hailed the agreement as a significant step in their dedication to clean energy, emphasizing that by connecting Omani green hydrogen with Europe’s energy demands, they are progressing towards common climate objectives and establishing a sustainable energy route.
Oman’s Minister of Energy and Minerals, Salim Nasser al Alufi, highlighted that this collaboration underscores Oman’s commitment to taking a leading role in the global green hydrogen sector while fortifying connections with Europe to bolster its sustainable transition to clean energy.
It’s important to note that this JDA expands on the existing partnership between Hydrom, the Omani Ministry of Energy and Minerals, Port of Amsterdam, ECOLOG, and EnBW for the creation of the liquid hydrogen corridor. Additionally, during COP28 in Dubai in 2023, the Government of Oman and Hydrom signed an agreement with Port of Amsterdam, Zenith Energy Terminals, and GasLog, focusing on the development of the liquid hydrogen supply chain from Oman to Europe, particularly the Netherlands.
