Türkiye is taking steps to increase its gas production by sending its first floating production unit to the Black Sea. This move is part of efforts to reduce energy imports and boost domestic energy production. The FPU, named Osman Gazi, is expected to double gas production from a deepwater natural gas field in Türkiye. The country has been focusing on strengthening its energy security by acquiring assets like the FPU and signing LNG deals with major companies like ExxonMobil, Shell, and TotalEnergies. Additionally, partnerships with companies like India’s Swan Energy and deals for resources like the Sakarya Gas Field in the Black Sea are part of Türkiye’s strategy to enhance its energy resources. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar have expressed optimism about the country’s energy independence goals. The Osman Gazi platform, with a length of 300 meters and a width of 56 meters, is set to start operations in 2026, significantly increasing gas production capacity. This development marks a new era in Türkiye’s energy history, symbolizing progress towards energy self-sufficiency.
