Van Oord Introduces New Trencher, Jet-It, for Subsea Cable Burial
April 25, 2025, by Zerina Tax

Van Oord, a Dutch company, has unveiled a new trencher named Jet-It to its subsea cable burial fleet. After successful testing in the North Sea, the unit is now set for operational use.
Jet-It, the latest addition to Van Oord’s trencher fleet, joins the company’s two existing models, Dig-It and Deep Dig-It, which utilize mechanical cutting and jetting techniques. In contrast, Jet-It solely relies on high-pressure water jetting to fluidize the seabed and create trenches.
Van Oord stated in a social media post that after a fruitful trial period in the North Sea, the advanced Jet-It machine is prepared for its inaugural project. The company emphasized that Jet-It’s design enables quick mobilization, as it can be installed on any vessel in a single lift, saving time and costs.
Jet-It is specifically optimized for sandy and light clay soils, capable of reaching trenching depths of up to three meters. It is equipped with two frequency-driven water pumps and multiple integrated sensors to facilitate high-speed and precise operations.
The system is tailored for burying inter-array and export cables, enhancing the efficiency of subsea cable installation. Van Oord highlighted, “With Jet-It now in our fleet, we operate three trenchers, all specialized for cable burial purposes.”
Recently, Van Oord awarded SPIE Wind Connect a contract for the termination and testing of inter-array cables at Ecowende’s offshore wind farm in the Hollandse Kust (west) lot VI in the Netherlands.
