Newly released court documents reportedly reveal that Olympic gold medalist Mary Lou Retton was found with a screw-top bottle of wine in her Porsche when she was arrested for driving under the influence in West Virginia this month. Authorities pulled her over on May 17 after observing her driving erratically and discovered the alcohol in the passenger seat of her vehicle. According to the court documents obtained by WDTV, the 57-year-old Retton also displayed signs of intoxication, such as smelling of alcohol and slurring her words. She is now facing a misdemeanor charge of DUI following her arrest in Marion County. Retton gained fame during the 1984 Olympics when she won five medals, including a gold in the all-around competition. Despite refusing a blood alcohol test, field sobriety tests indicated impairment, as stated in the documents. Following a health scare in 2023 due to pneumonia, Retton expressed gratitude for her recovery and survival after being released from the hospital in January 2024. As a member of the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame, Retton was released on $1,500 bond on the same day as her arrest. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
