The U.S. Treasury, led by Secretary Scott Bessent, has imposed sanctions on Iran’s liquified petroleum gas industry in an effort to resume discussions on Tehran’s nuclear program. The sanctions target Seyed Asadoollah Emamjomeh, his son Meisam Emamjomeh, and 12 companies connected to them. These individuals and entities are accused of facilitating the export of Iranian LPG and crude oil to foreign markets, providing significant revenue to the Iranian government. The Treasury highlighted the Emamjomehs’ operation of an LPG sales network through various companies, including Caspian Petrochemical FZE. The U.S. remains committed to holding accountable those who support Iran’s destabilizing activities. Discussions between the Trump administration and Iran on the nuclear program have been ongoing, with Trump aiming to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons since 2018. The U.S. government estimates Iran’s nuclear capabilities have advanced, and Trump has threatened to escalate pressure on Iran if a deal is not reached. Iran has postponed a meeting with the U.S. delegation to Saturday to allow for the presence of both delegations’ leaders.
