Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has recently launched the second LNG dual-fuel cruise ship constructed for TUI Cruises, a partnership between TUI and Royal Caribbean Cruises. The launching ceremony of the cruise ship, named Mein Schiff Flow, took place at Fincantieri’s Monfalcone shipyard on May 30. This vessel is a sister ship to My Ship Relax, which was delivered in February this year. Mein Schiff Flow is part of the InTUItion class cruise ships, designed to operate on LNG and marine gas oil (MGO).
Considered the “backbone” of TUI Cruises’ upcoming fleet, these ships are focused on energy efficiency to decrease operational consumption and reduce environmental impact in accordance with current regulations. Similar to its counterpart, Mein Schiff Flow can utilize LNG and is adaptable to low-emission fuels like bio- or e-LNG. The newbuild, with around 160,000 gross tons, will incorporate catalytic converters meeting Euro 6 standards, a steam turbine to utilize residual heat from the diesel generators, and an electrical shore-power connection. These features are anticipated to ensure nearly emission-free operations when in port, accounting for about 40% of the operating time.
Additionally, the ship will be equipped with a waste treatment system capable of converting organic materials into recyclable components through a thermal process. Mein Schiff Flow is set to commence operations by mid-2026.
