President Donald Trump has announced the appointment of Fox News host Jeanine Pirro as the interim U.S. attorney for Washington, D.C., praising her qualifications for the role. Trump revealed the decision on his Truth Social platform, highlighting Pirro’s background as a prosecutor, judge, and current co-host of a popular television show. The move comes after the withdrawal of conservative activist Ed Martin’s nomination to permanently hold the position. Pirro’s potential selection had been previously reported by NBC News and ABC News. Following the announcement, Fox News expressed support for Pirro’s new role, noting her contributions over the years. Pirro has been associated with spreading conspiracy theories related to the 2020 election and was mentioned in litigation involving Dominion Voting Systems. Meanwhile, Martin will transition to a new role at the Justice Department, investigating what Trump referred to as the “Weaponization of our Government under the Biden Regime.” While Martin has faced scrutiny for his ties to Jan. 6 rioters, Pirro has also been linked to conspiracy theories surrounding the Capitol attack. Despite her past statements, Pirro condemned the events of Jan. 6 as “deplorable, reprehensible, outright criminal” in the aftermath.
