President Trump is granting a pardon to Todd and Julie Chrisley, who are currently in federal prison for tax evasion and bank fraud.
Trump informed the couple’s children about the decision in a personal phone call on Tuesday. He expressed that while the situation is unfortunate, it is a positive development as their parents will soon be released. Trump also mentioned that he would try to finalize the pardon by the following day.
He conveyed his well wishes to the Chrisleys through their children, stating, “I don’t know them, but give them my regards and wish them a good life.” In response, the youngest son, Grayson Chrisley, thanked Trump for bringing his parents back, to which Trump acknowledged the harsh treatment they had received.
In a separate call with the couple’s daughter, Savannah Chrisley, Trump praised the University of Alabama and its students. He encouraged the family to keep fighting and expressed that the pardon was a recognition of the injustice they faced.
Their attorney, Alex Little, emphasized that the pardon corrects a significant injustice and allows the Chrisley family to move forward. Little argued that the couple had been unfairly targeted due to their conservative beliefs and high profile. He highlighted multiple constitutional violations and political bias in their prosecution.
The Chrisleys, who were convicted in June 2022, were sentenced to 12 years for Todd and 7 years for Julie. Little also commended their exemplary conduct during their time in prison.
The couple’s legal troubles stemmed from allegations of submitting false documents to banks and engaging in fraudulent schemes. Despite the challenges they faced, the Chrisleys can now begin rebuilding their lives with the pardon granted by President Trump.
