A “Trump 2028” hat is now available for purchase on Trumpstore.com, the official retail website of the Trump Organization.
The online store for the Trump Organization has started selling red hats and T-shirts with the message “Trump 2028,” sparking fresh speculation about President Donald Trump’s potential bid for a third term in the White House, despite constitutional restrictions.
When asked about the merchandise, the White House directed CNBC to the Trump Organization, which did not respond to requests for comments.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told NBC News, “But it’s a cool hat and I suspect it will be highly popular!”
The hat is priced at $50, while a red shirt featuring the “Trump 2028” logo and “Rewrite the Rules” below it is selling for $36.
Trump has hinted multiple times about running for a third presidential term, a move that would require a constitutional amendment.
The 22nd Amendment of the Constitution states that “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.” Trump was elected in 2016 and 2024.
In late March, Trump left open the possibility of seeking re-election in 2028, stating, “A lot of people want me to do it.”
When asked if he desired a third term, Trump responded, “I like working.”
“I’m not joking,” Trump emphasized. “But I’m not — it is far too early to think about it.”
“There are methods which you could do it,” Trump added, referring to serving another term.
During a private meeting with Republicans following his November electoral win over Democratic former Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump reportedly said, “I suspect I won’t be running again, unless you say, ‘He’s so good we’ve got to figure something else out.'”
In May 2024, speaking to members of the National Rifle Association, Trump questioned whether he would be considered for a third term if he won.
Former White House advisor Steve Bannon predicted on “Real Time with Bill Maher” that “President Trump is going to run for a third term, and President Trump is going to be elected again.”
Bannon forecasted that on January 20, 2029, Trump would be sworn in as president for a third term.
Rep. Andy Ogles, R-Tenn., introduced a House resolution in January seeking to amend the Constitution to allow Trump and future presidents to serve a third term.
Ogles’ resolution is designed to permit Trump to serve a third term but does not extend to the three living two-term former presidents.
“No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than three times, nor be elected to any additional term after being elected to two consecutive terms,” the proposed amendment states.
While former Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama each served two consecutive terms, former President Joe Biden served one term.
