Trump gives break to Rolls-Royce cars, but threatens more tariffs on Mattel toys

Luxury British car manufacturers such as Rolls-Royce, Range Rover, and Aston Martin are set to benefit from a tariff relief as part of a trade deal announced by President Donald Trump. Trump intends to decrease the tariff on British cars from 27.5% to 10%, while maintaining high tariffs on toymaker Mattel, even if the company shifts its production away from China. Trump specifically mentioned imposing a 100% tariff on Mattel toys if the company moves its production out of China. However, he emphasized that vehicles like Rolls-Royce are not expected to be produced in the U.S. and will be exempt from tariffs, unlike other luxury UK-made cars such as Range Rovers. Mattel CEO Ynon Kreiz mentioned plans to continue diversifying the company’s supply chain by moving production out of China. Trump has been vocal about imposing tariffs on Chinese imports, causing concerns for companies reliant on China’s supply chain, such as those in the toy industry. He has shown little concern about potential price increases on items like toys and strollers, emphasizing the importance of reducing the trade deficit with China.
