Trump Commutes Gangster Disciples Founder Larry Hoover’s Prison Sentence

Larry Hoover, the founder of Gangster Disciples, was one of the fortunate inmates to receive positive news as President Donald Trump commuted his prison sentence on the same day he granted freedom to Julie and Todd Chrisley.

In December 2021, Kanye West and Drake famously settled their feud during a “Free Larry Hoover” fundraising concert, prompting gratitude from West towards President Trump for the pardon, with Hoover’s family celebrating the news.

Rick Ross also paid tribute to Hoover in his 2011 track “B.M.F. (Blowin’ Money Fast),” which highlighted the lives of recently pardoned former drug dealer Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory Sr.

A commuted sentence, as seen with Hoover, is when a president or state governor reduces the sentence but the original conviction remains, unlike a pardon that erases the conviction. Hoover, now 74 years old, had been serving multiple life sentences for a 1973 murder and leading the Gangster Disciples but has since renounced his criminal past. He is currently in the ADX Florence supermax prison in Colorado, with an Illinois state penalty still pending as Trump cannot pardon state crimes.
