TikTok influencer in Mexico shot and killed on livestream

A Mexican social media influencer, Valeria Márquez, was tragically shot and killed while live streaming from a beauty salon in a region known for cartel violence. Before the fatal shooting, Márquez had expressed concern about two men who had come to the salon in Jalisco, Mexico, claiming to have a valuable gift for her. She suspected they might harm her. Moments later, she was shot on camera. Investigators believe the men were hired assassins.

The region where the incident occurred is controlled by a powerful cartel, and hired gunmen, known as “sicarios,” are common. Authorities are also looking into a possible connection between Márquez’s murder and the killing of a former congressman in the same area. President Sheinbaum assured that an investigation is ongoing to identify those responsible for Márquez’s death and determine the motive. The funeral for the influencer was held on Thursday. Jalisco ranks sixth in Mexico for homicides, reflecting the concerning levels of violence in the region.
