The movement against book bans transcends mere books. Initially aimed at Critical Race Theory as a means to target Black and brown students, it later encompassed demonizing queer and transgender students — including Foster’s own brother — as far-right extremists sought to suppress their narratives in educational institutions and libraries. Presently, the Trump administration is targeting higher education by using unconstitutional fear tactics to dismantle Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs and deport international students who challenge its policies.

I recently had the opportunity to watch “Banned Together” before interviewing the producers for the Book Riot Podcast, and I wholeheartedly recommend it. May the courageous efforts of these young individuals bear fruit.
