The MLB season has progressed past the initial phase of teams feeling each other out. Following Memorial Day weekend, the league is now in the intriguing third of the season leading up to the July 31 trade deadline.
Most teams will likely wait until after the July 13-14 draft before deciding whether they will be buyers, sellers, or stay put. However, for some teams, the decision has already been made.
The Rockies are heading towards being one of the worst teams in history, while the White Sox can find solace in not being as poor as last year’s White Sox or this season’s Rockies. Chicago has already made significant moves, including trading Garrett Crochet in the offseason.
There might be an opportunity for a team in need of offense to acquire Andrew Benintendi or Luis Robert Jr. from the White Sox at a low cost, but neither player seems to justify their current contracts, let alone giving up valuable assets – Robert was among the bottom 11 in OPS-plus among qualified players leading into the weekend.
