The 30 Best Novels of the Last 30 Years
For its 30th Festival of Books, The L.A. Times has compiled a list of the top 30 fiction books from the past 30 years, selected through input from authors, editors, critics, scholars, and other experts. The 30th book on the list, “Cloud Atlas” by David Mitchell, is described as ambitious, a term that can also be applied to many others on the list, including the top-ranked book, “2666” by Roberto Bolaño. While “2666” may not appeal to everyone due to its intense subject matter, its complex narrative structure has earned it a place on numerous lists of great books. The list includes a mix of literary fiction and more commercial works like “The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins.
A Tiny Folding e-Reader
China’s Readmoo has unveiled a compact e-reader that is smaller than a paperback when folded. This innovative device features an electronic paper screen capable of enduring 200,000 bends and producing over 50,000 shades of high-resolution color. This e-reader is likely to attract Kindle users seeking a more portable device, although its availability and price, especially given the ongoing trade tensions with China, remain uncertain.
