Taylor Swift is no longer facing a subpoena in the legal dispute involving Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively, as Baldoni’s team has withdrawn the subpoenas targeting her and her law firm, according to TMZ.
Sources familiar with the situation revealed that Baldoni’s camp decided to drop the subpoena after receiving voluntarily provided information.
Additionally, other sources have indicated that this action affirms previous statements that Taylor’s involvement in the film was limited to licensing a song.
Swift’s name has been mentioned in the lawsuit on a few occasions, including in a text message allegedly sent by Lively to Baldoni, where she referred to Swift and Ryan Reynolds as protective “dragons” and herself as The Mother of Dragons, in a nod to “Game of Thrones.”
The dragon reference reportedly upset Taylor, with a source close to her expressing that she felt misled by Blake, as she showed up for a meeting without knowing Baldoni would be present.
Last week, Taylor’s spokesperson clarified that the singer’s role in the film was minimal, emphasizing that she did not visit the set or participate in casting or editing decisions.
A representative for Blake Lively stated that they supported Taylor’s team in getting the subpoenas dismissed and reiterated their commitment to defending any third party facing unjust harassment during the legal process.
Although Baldoni’s team initially aimed to involve Swift in the legal battle, they ultimately backed down when facing the federal court, according to their representative.
In a final comment, Blake’s representative mentioned that Baldoni’s team should focus on addressing the allegations of sexual harassment and retaliation instead of creating distractions.
Previously, Taylor Swift was served a subpoena to testify in the case, a move that was criticized by her team.
Bryan Freedman, Baldoni’s attorney, submitted a letter to the court days after Taylor was served, alleging that an anonymous individual claimed Blake tried to coerce Taylor into issuing a public statement of support. However, the letter was later removed from the record.
Efforts to obtain a response from Baldoni’s side have been unsuccessful so far.
