In Lebanon, New Hampshire, FreshAir Sensor, a prominent company in indoor air quality monitoring, discovered that 4 out of 5 travelers have faced discomfort from exposure to cigarette or marijuana smoke, perceived chemicals, and other unpleasant odors during their hotel stays. Over 90 percent of those surveyed expressed interest in selecting a room where hotels can ensure a higher air quality standard. These findings indicate a growing number of travelers who prioritize improved indoor air quality as a crucial element of their guest experience and are willing to pay extra for it.

FreshAir Sensor conducted a survey of over 200 regular hotel visitors, with almost all participants stating that their health and well-being are significant concerns while traveling. 84 percent of respondents reported staying in a non-smoking room that showed signs of smoking upon arrival, affecting their stay negatively. Key insights from the study include:

– 95 percent prefer hotels where guests can guarantee their rooms have not been exposed to smoking before their arrival.
– 56 percent consider hotel guest rooms safe and clean to stay in after 60 days of being smoke-free.
– Over 60 percent are willing to pay a 3 percent premium to ensure their room has not been exposed to smoking before their visit.

Will Darrah, chief commercial officer at FreshAir Sensor, noted that travelers are increasingly mindful of wellness during trips, and the survey results highlight these changes while presenting hotel owners with opportunities to enhance guest satisfaction and boost revenue. FreshAir Sensor has responded to the rising demand for clean air solutions by introducing FreshAir Certified, a cost-effective room attribute that enables hotels to offer air quality as an exclusive guest purchase option.

FreshAir Sensor’s molecular air quality monitoring systems are installed in hotel guest rooms to monitor and certify rooms free of common irritants like smoke odors, scented sprays, and mold conditions. Operators can present these rooms to guests during their booking process as a rate plan, booking enhancement, or loyalty feature.
