The Phoenix Suns are currently in the process of searching for their fourth head coach in as many seasons under team majority owner Mat Ishbia, according to sources informed by John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM Phoenix. Gambadoro reported that Miami Heat assistant coach Chris Quinn, Cleveland Cavaliers assistant coaches Johnnie Bryant, and Jordan Ott are among the top contenders.
Later, Gambadoro revealed that Dallas Mavericks assistant coach Sean Sweeney is also set to interview for the position, indicating that he is the fourth candidate. However, sources have informed Duane Rankin of The Arizona Republic that Minnesota Timberwolves assistant coach Micah Nori is also still in the running. The Suns had initially considered between 15 to 20 candidates for the job, with the club recently completing Zoom interviews with a group of nine finalists.
Since Ishbia acquired a controlling stake in the franchise in 2023, the Suns have undergone significant changes. Following a disappointing season, which saw them exit the playoffs in the second round, the team made coaching changes and significant player trades. Despite these efforts, the Suns struggled in the 2024-25 season, resulting in another coaching change and a failed postseason appearance.
All the coaching finalists are experienced assistants, yet none have head coaching experience. With uncertainties surrounding the future of star players Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal, the Suns’ roster may see further changes under the new coach.
