Skoda Turned an Old Hatchback Into an Awesome New Concept

The Skoda Favorit is not a familiar car in the United States. Launched in 1987 as a hatchback designed by Bertone, it was highly successful for the brand. Now, in 2025, Skoda has reimagined the Favorit with their latest design language, incorporating some styling quirks that blend the past with a modern touch.

The new Favorit concept maintains the original’s simple and sleek design, softening some of the sharper edges, including integrating the door handles into a single opening between the front and rear doors. This updated version is also larger than its predecessor, embracing a crossover-like stance to cater to contemporary tastes.

This design embodies “the spirit” of Skoda’s Modern Solid design language but with noticeable alterations. The front of the concept deviates from the Skoda Tech-Deck Face, the brand’s new corporate look for its vehicles, opting for something distinct.

One of the standout features of the concept is its lighting. The Favorit showcases slim LED elements at the front and rear, along with illuminated badging on the hatch. Transparent covers over the lights, which designer David Stingl mentioned could retract when the headlights are in use, add to the innovative design. The designers even envisioned a racing version with plastic cladding and other sporty additions.

Designer Ljudmil Slavov envisioned the new hatch as an electric vehicle, which would significantly enhance its performance capabilities. The original Favorit was powered by a 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine generating between 54 and 67 horsepower, which would not suffice by today’s standards. However, with electric motors being compact and powerful, they could potentially transform a new Favorit into an exceptional performance hatchback not available in the United States.

Despite this, we can still dream of the possibilities.
