Researchers race to understand new disease killing Caribbean corals at unprecedented rates

In a significant discovery, divers came across stony coral tissue loss disease in the corals at Laughing Bird Caye National Park in Belize for the first time this May. The nonprofit organization Fragments of Hope, which conducts routine monitoring at the site, noticed no trace of the disease just a month earlier.
