Every horse that participated in the 151st Kentucky Derby in Louisville, Kentucky, is said to have lineage tracing back to one prominent American champion. The pedigrees indicate that these horses are descendants of Secretariat, the record-setting horse from 1973. Most horses’ lineage can reportedly be traced back six generations to champions such as Secretariat or Northern Dancer.

Trainer Whit Beckman, who has a horse contending in the derby, mentioned, “It’s one of those stats. It’s bound to happen at some point with how much he shows up in every single pedigree. It’s really cool. Very cool.” Secretariat, a famous racehorse, achieved the Triple Crown victory in 1973, becoming the first in 25 years to do so. After his racing career, he sired nearly 600 horses, with over 40 stakes winners among them.

In this year’s Kentucky Derby, Sovereignty emerged victorious, with the crowd cheering as the horses raced through the muddy track. Sovereignty overtook Journalism in the final stretch to win by 1 1/2 lengths. This victory marked Godolphin’s first win in the Kentucky Derby, as reported by UPI. After the race, a social media post featuring Sovereignty after his victory garnered praise from fans, with one commenting, “He ran one hell of a race. He deserves attention,” while another admired, “Great race and a beautiful horse.”
