A massive kangaroo, described as “very distressed” and “as big as a car,” engaged in a dramatic altercation with an Australian man in floodwaters following a severe storm on Friday. The man, Don James, recounted the harrowing experience of being nearly drowned by the powerful male kangaroo during the encounter in Port Macquarie, as reported by Australian news network ABC.
The incident unfolded when James encountered the kangaroo while walking along the road and warned a passing driver about the large animal approaching. The kangaroo then shifted its attention to James, leading to a physical confrontation between the two. Witness Kristy Lee described the intense showdown as a boxing match, with both James and the kangaroo exchanging punches before the man fell into a flooded area off the road.
The kangaroo, which had been attempting to hold James underwater, abruptly ended the struggle and fled, reportedly spooked by something. James described the incident as “pretty traumatic,” emphasizing the distress animals can experience during flooding, according to wildlife rescue expert Kym Kilpatrick.
