In a series of photos shared, Pope Leo XIV can be seen arriving on a white Popemobile for his inaugural Mass at Saint Peter’s Square in the Vatican on Sunday, May 18, 2025. The 267th Pope joyfully waved to the crowd from the Electric Mercedes-Benz G-Class-based Popemobile, the first time the new pontiff used this papal vehicle.

The Popemobile, a custom-built motor vehicle succeeding the portable throne known as sedia gestatoria, is specifically designed for the pope’s public appearances.

Among the dignitaries present at the official installation of Pope Leo XIV were US Vice-President JD VANCE, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and Nigerian President Bola Tinubu.
