In Kawasaki, Japan on June 4, 2025, Fujitsu Limited announced that Orange S.A., a global communications service provider, has successfully evaluated the 1FINITY T900 Series Transponder in their lab. The evaluation showed that the 1FINITY T900 solution performed well at 800Gbps wavelengths over long distances with low power consumption, making optical transport more affordable and sustainable.
Network operators are facing challenges to transport more data at a lower cost per bit due to increasing data demands and rising costs. Energy costs and environmental sustainability goals also add pressure, as operators aim to reduce power consumption for a smaller carbon footprint. The 1FINITY T900 transponder by Fujitsu demonstrated low and consistent power consumption across all transmission rates, achieving a transport distance of at least 1600 km at 800Gbps with power consumption below 150 Watts during the evaluation by Orange at their Innovation Labs in France.
The trial highlighted the potential for increased long-haul transport distance and capacity without higher power consumption, thanks to Fujitsu’s unique closed-loop liquid cooling technology. This liquid-cooled transponder, supporting up to 1.2Tbps per wavelength, offers enhanced spectral efficiency for better capacity and reach, resulting in lower costs, reduced operating expenses, and improved sustainability.
Orange’s Optical Transport Innovation leader, Houmed Ibrahim, expressed the company’s commitment to deploying reliable, high-performance networks with minimal power consumption to improve sustainability and reduce costs. Hideki Matsui, head of Photonics System Business Unit at Fujitsu, emphasized the energy efficiency and performance of the 1FINITY T900 solution, enabling long-haul networking with extreme scale and reliable terabit performance in continental Europe.
Fujitsu will launch a new company, 1FINITY Inc., on July 1, consolidating its network business products and operations to enhance the delivery of optical and wireless solutions globally. This move aims to contribute to the digital society’s advancement and a more sustainable future.
Fujitsu’s purpose is to make the world more sustainable through innovation, offering services and solutions in AI, Computing, Networks, Data & Security, and Converging Technologies. With consolidated revenues of 3.6 trillion yen (US$23 billion) for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2025, Fujitsu remains a leading digital services company in Japan.
