Odfjell Drilling rig set to drill two exploration wells in the North Sea for Equinor, a Norwegian energy company. The drilling permit for the wells, 15/5-8 S and 15/5-8 A, was granted by the Norwegian Offshore Directorate. Equinor, with a 60% interest, will operate alongside partner Aker BP with a 40% stake. The drilling of the first well is planned for June 2025, followed by the second in August 2025. The Deepsea Atlantic rig will be used for both wells, extending its contract with Equinor until mid-2027. Equinor recently utilized the same rig to make a gas/condensate discovery in well 6406/6-7 S, indicating a potential 3-7 million standard cubic meters of recoverable oil equivalent.
