Oakland Airport in California has recently added five K9MD RIDE buses to its parking shuttle fleet, making them the first zero-emission vehicles in service. These battery-electric buses will be used to transport passengers and employees within the airport parking lots. The move has been commended by Jason Yan, Vice President of Sales, West Region and National Account, who praised the airport’s dedication to transitioning to electric vehicles and its partnership with RIDE to provide sustainable transportation options. The K9MD buses can accommodate up to 42 passengers and travel up to 208 miles on a single charge, boasting a 12-year battery warranty and utilizing lithium iron phosphate (LFP) technology for safety. Manufactured in Lancaster, CA by SMART (Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation) Union, Local 105 workers, these buses are part of Oakland Airport’s goal to fully electrify its shuttle fleet over the next decade. RIDE, a company based in Lancaster, California, is a subsidiary of BYD and specializes in producing heavy-duty electric vehicles for the US market.
