Northwestern senior Lauryn Nguyen secured a win on the first extra hole, advancing the Wildcats to the NCAA women’s golf championship semifinals. Freshman Hsin Tai Lin also contributed by defeating individual national champion Maria José Marin of Arkansas. The third-seeded Northwestern team will face the second-seeded Oregon in the semifinals at La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif. Meanwhile, top seed Stanford will compete against fourth-seeded Florida State in the other semifinal match. All top four finishers from the stroke play stage have progressed to the semifinals, with the championship match scheduled for Wednesday.

Nguyen’s victory came after a tense battle with Clarisa Temelo, where she lost two of the last three regulation holes but managed to secure the win with a par on the extra hole. Lin’s performance was crucial as well, tying the score and eventually defeating José Marin. The Wildcats’ strong showing was further bolstered by freshman Elise Lee’s comeback win and their solid performance in the stroke play stage.

José Marin of Arkansas emerged victorious in the individual competition, securing her place in the NCAA title history alongside other Arkansas champions. Stanford, a dominant force in match play, continued their strong run, while José Marin showcased impressive composure and skill throughout the tournament. Her remarkable performance earned her a spot in the upcoming U.S. Women’s Open at Erin Hills in Wisconsin.
