Norsepower, a Finnish cleantech company, will supply rotor sails for six new chemical tankers ordered by GEFO Shipping Group from Germany. The agreement includes two 7,900 dwt tankers and four 3,850 dwt tankers, all to be equipped with Norsepower’s wind propulsion solution. The vessels are under construction at Nantong Xiangyu Shipbuilding in China and are scheduled for delivery between 2026 and 2028. This deal marks the first collaboration between the three parties. The project has received support from Germany’s Namkue Fund aimed at promoting eco-friendly maritime transportation. The tankers’ design is by SDC Ship Design & Consult from Germany. The rotor sails, with EX-compliant design, will be manufactured at Norsepower’s factory in China. GEFO will utilize Norsepower’s Digital Dimension for real-time performance optimization and emission savings. Norsepower has also partnered with CHIC to boost the production and usage of rotor sails in China to reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
