Nintendo announced on Thursday its expectation to sell 15 million units of the new Switch 2 console by March 2026. This is the first sales forecast for the Japanese gaming company since unveiling the successor to the successful Switch, set to be released in June. Nintendo’s financial results for the fourth quarter and full year were also revealed, showing a revenue of 208.7 billion Japanese yen and a net profit of 41.6 billion yen, slightly below expectations. The company experienced a decline in revenue and profit due to anticipation for the upcoming Switch 2, leading to decreased sales of the current console.
Earlier this year, Nintendo revised its sales forecast for the Switch downwards but fell just short of the target, selling 10.8 million units in the fiscal year. Market analysts predict strong sales for the Switch 2, building on the success of the original Switch. Nintendo’s President expressed concerns over potential tariffs impacting demand and profit margins, amid uncertainties surrounding global trade policies. Investors are now looking towards the performance of the Switch 2 following its launch, with hopes that Nintendo can maintain its momentum in the gaming market.
