Ningbo Zhoushan Port in East China has partnered with ports in Spain and Germany to establish green shipping routes and advance maritime decarbonization efforts. The agreement was sealed during a maritime conference in Zhejiang this week. By collaborating with the Port of Hamburg, the Port of Wilhelmshaven, and Valenciaport, Ningbo Zhoushan Port aims to become the leading hub for green shipping corridors in China. The focus will be on enhancing low-carbon cooperation and leveraging innovative technologies to drive sustainable practices in the shipping industry. Additionally, the port has inked agreements with COSCO Shipping Lines, Sinotrans, and COSCO Shipping Bulk, along with a memorandum of cooperation with Abu Dhabi Ports Group. Ningbo Zhoushan Port, known as the world’s busiest port in terms of cargo tonnage, was established in 2015 after the merger of Ningbo Port Group and Zhoushan Port Group. In a similar initiative, the Port of Shanghai recently joined forces with Hamburg Port Authority to develop a green shipping corridor, aiming to provide shore power connections, promote eco-friendly fuels, and encourage stakeholders to support sustainable shipping practices.
