New forest loss data beef up Amazon deforestation case against Casino Group

A new study conducted by the nonprofit organization Instituto Centro de Vida (ICV) revealed that the activities of the French retail giant Casino Group in Brazil may have contributed to over 500,000 hectares of deforestation from 2018 to 2023. The report stated that approximately 526,459 hectares (equivalent to around 1.3 million acres) of natural vegetation, roughly the size of 50 football fields, could be affected by the operations of the company.
