New Cat Simulator Delivers Virtual-Reality Training for Asphalt Pavers and Rollers

The most recent Cat Simulators offered by training solutions provider Simformotion enable individuals to practice operating and inspecting asphalt pavers and rollers. By wearing a virtual reality headset, trainees find themselves in a highway construction setting, where they undertake tasks such as paving the highway and compacting asphalt.
Vanessa Price, the Vice President of Simformotion, highlighted the common challenges faced by operators in the paving industry, including high turnover rates and the necessity for effective training. The Cat Simulators VR Paving system was developed to tackle these issues by delivering a comprehensive VR-based training experience to new and inexperienced operators.
The system includes a Meta Quest 3 VR headset, controllers, and simulation software. An advantage of incorporating the Cat Simulators VR Paving system into a training program is its portability, enabling users to relocate the experience as required.
Furthermore, each system features a subscription to SimScholars, an interactive curriculum that complements the VR exercises and can be utilized in classrooms or remotely. Additionally, it includes instructor course guides, quizzes, and more.
With the VR paving system, there is an exclusive walkaround machine inspection module and the SimU Campus reporting software, which generates reports comparing trainees’ performance to Caterpillar’s standards.
Last autumn, Cat Simulators also introduced its Collaborative Worksite Training package, allowing a maximum of nine users to simultaneously operate dozers, excavators, and articulated trucks in the same virtual environment.
