Big Daddy Weave lead vocalist Mike Weaver is preparing to launch his upcoming album following personal tragedies and a renewal of faith. In a recent interview with The Christian Post, Weaver described the challenging process of creating the album as the most uphill battle ever.
Titled “Let It Begin,” the album consists of 15 tracks that reflect on grief, faith, and the joy that emerged from these experiences. This marks the band’s first album since the passing of Weaver’s younger brother and longtime bandmate, Jay Weaver, at the age of 42 due to COVID-19 complications.
Jay faced numerous health struggles, including the amputation of both feet in 2016 before his passing. Their mother’s demise occurred in 2021, and their father passed away on Christmas morning in 2017. Weaver reminisced about Jay’s resilience and unwavering faith, highlighting his brother’s impact on the band both musically and personally.
The album emphasizes the pain of Jay’s loss, notably showcased in the emotional tribute track “Jaybird,” co-written by Jeff Pardo and Matthew West. Weaver recalled the therapeutic process of creating the song and the healing journey it initiated.
Reflecting on Jay’s response to the tribute song, Weaver humorously imagined his brother’s candid and humorous reaction, emphasizing Jay’s unwavering faith in Jesus. He acknowledged the healing process that occurred through grief and expressed gratitude for Jay’s enduring influence on his life.
“Let It Begin” by Big Daddy Weave is scheduled for release on May 23.
