Major deepfake porn site shuts down

The AI-generated pornography website, MrDeepFakes, has closed down due to a major service provider terminating its services, as stated in a message on its homepage. The site will not be relaunched, and the domain will expire eventually. The website was known for hosting digitally altered explicit content without the consent of individuals, including celebrities. A study revealed that the motives behind these deepfake videos were for sexual gratification and to degrade and humiliate the targets. There have been discussions on how to combat this form of disinformation, with the U.S. House of Representatives recently passing the TAKE IT DOWN Act, which aims to penalize those who distribute non-consensual intimate visual depictions. The bill has already been approved by the Senate and awaits President Trump’s approval.
