On May 6, officials reported that a peacock from the Chattanooga Zoo in Tennessee strayed away and was discovered in a neighboring resident’s backyard the next day. The zoo stated on social media that two peacocks managed to get out of the zoo grounds by going past the perimeter fence. One of them was promptly caught by the animal care team. The other peacock was found the next day in a nearby backyard across the street from the zoo. The zoo expressed gratitude to Eric Spear for noticing the peacock and informing them of its whereabouts. The zoo mentioned that their peafowl typically roam freely within the zoo but are confined by the perimeter fence. They noted that in the 40 years of allowing the birds to wander, such an escape was an uncommon event.
