Lloyd’s Register and Pusan National University Collaborate on Liquefied Hydrogen Carrier Technology
On April 17, 2025, Lloyd’s Register, a UK-based classification society, and the Hydrogen Ship Technology Center at Pusan National University (PNU) in Korea signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to advance liquefied hydrogen carrier technology and cryogenic engineering. The collaboration aims to drive research and technology development, exchange technical expertise, foster international academic cooperation, and develop shared policies. This partnership is crucial for accelerating the commercialization of liquefied hydrogen carriers while ensuring they meet international safety and performance standards. PNU’s involvement in the Hydro Ocean K project, which is developing the world’s largest liquefied hydrogen carrier, further underscores the university’s role in tackling this challenge. The agreement marks a significant milestone in the development of liquefied hydrogen carriers and cryogenic engineering technology, paving the way for progress in the future hydrogen economy.
