Kurt Cobain’s Smashed Guitar Sells for $101,500 at Auction

Kurt Cobain famously smashed a white Fender Stratocaster in 1992, and now the guitar has set a new record by selling for a hefty sum at an auction!

According to Dylan Kosinski, the president of the music auction site Gottahaverockandroll, the smashed guitar was sold for $101,500 to a collector from Texas when the auction concluded.

The music memorabilia item sparked a bidding war on the website, with a total of five people making 11 bids before a winner emerged.

Although the minimum bid was $30,000, the final selling price far exceeded expectations.

The guitar was smashed during Nirvana’s European tour in 1992 but was restored to working condition while the band was still on tour. It was originally acquired by a crewmember who worked with Nirvana from 1991 to 1993 and was later authenticated by Big John Duncan, a well-known guitar tech associated with the band.

While $101,500 may not be the highest amount a Cobain guitar has ever fetched (one of his guitars used in “Smells Like Teen Spirit” sold for $4.5 million), it is still a significant sum that has put the seller in a good financial position.
