‘Grandpa Robbers’ Found Guilty in Paris Jewelry Heist Trial Involving Kim Kardashian
Eight individuals have been convicted and two have been acquitted in the case of the ‘Grandpa Robbers’ gang who stole $10 million worth of jewelry from Kim Kardashian in Paris back in 2016. The accused leader, 69-year-old Amber ‘Old Omar’ Ait kedache, received an 8-year prison sentence with 5 years suspended, along with three others who received 7-year sentences, also with 5 years suspended. Despite the guilty verdicts, none of the convicted individuals will serve time in prison due to credit for pretrial detention. The heist involved two men dressed as police officers who robbed Kardashian at her Hôtel de Pourtalès apartment during Paris Fashion Week, taking valuable jewelry, including a $4-million diamond engagement ring.

A total of ten defendants, including nine men and one woman, stood trial for weeks over the 2016 robbery. The sentencing took into account the ages of the defendants and the time already served. The chief judge explained that the defendants’ ages and prior time in custody played a role in the sentencing decisions. Additionally, a book titled ‘I Kidnapped Kim Kardashian’ was written by one of the suspects who allegedly fled the scene on a bicycle but dropped jewels on the street due to a flat tire. Only a $24K diamond necklace has been recovered from the robbery nine years later.

The mastermind of the heist, ‘Old Omar,’ who is deaf and mute, apologized to Kim Kardashian before the verdict was reached. Kardashian testified during the trial, recounting the traumatic experience of being bound and fearing for her life during the robbery. Most of the defendants are in their 60s and 70s, with some having prior criminal records. The arrests were made months after the Paris robbery, but it took almost a decade for the case to go to trial.
