Innovative New Tool at Intermountain Health Riverton Hospital Helps Allergists and Patients

Intermountain Health Riverton Hospital has recently set up a Burkard Pollen and Spore collector device to gather pollen counts and mold scores for the day, aiding patients and allergists in managing pollen and mold triggers effectively. By partnering with the National Allergy Bureau, the hospital is now a certified pollen counting station capable of providing accurate reports on pollen levels and identifying specific high pollen types. The device, located on the hospital’s roof, operates continuously to collect and process data on mold scores and pollen counts, with an NAB certified allergist responsible for interpreting and reporting the findings. This initiative will allow allergy patients in the Southwest Salt Lake Valley area to better understand how to incorporate this information into their treatment plans with allergists. Dr. Scott Taylor, an Intermountain Health allergist, emphasized the importance of consulting allergists for proper testing and treatment based on the collected pollen data. This approach will benefit not only allergy patients but also those with asthma and immunology issues.
