Île-de-France promises ticket fare revolution from 2 January 2025

david.cWorld News5 hours ago7 Views

Starting January 2, 2025, the Ile-de-France public transit authority, IDFM, is introducing a new fare system for metro, trams, and regional trains in the Paris region. Traveling within the network will now cost either 2 or 2.5 euros. The new pricing structure aims to simplify the complex system that was previously in place, making it easier for occasional users. By reducing the number of fare options from 50,000 to just 2, IDFM hopes to attract more residents and visitors to use public transportation. This move is also part of the IDFM 2030 Mobility Plan, which aims to decrease private car usage by 15% in the outer suburban areas. Additionally, the reform seeks to create a more cohesive transportation system across the Ile-de-France region, eliminating higher prices for residents commuting to and from Paris. The self-financed reform is expected to boost public transport usage by 1-2%.
