IHG Hotels & Resorts has teamed up with Minami Nijo Operations, a subsidiary of World Brands Collection Hotels & Resorts, to launch the second Holiday Inn & Suites in Japan. Situated in Sapporo, the hotel will be under the ownership of a fund managed by Goldman Sachs.
Set to open in late 2025, the 195-room Holiday Inn & Suites Sapporo Odori Park will undergo a comprehensive renovation, including upgrades to guest rooms, the addition of a gym, and the creation of a new lobby café following the Open Lobby concept of Holiday Inn. This design-focused flexible space will provide guests with opportunities to unwind and socialize.
This new property will be part of the extensive portfolio of over 1,200 Holiday Inn hotels and resorts globally, including eight others in Japan. The hotel is conveniently located at the end of the well-known Tanukikoji Shopping Street in the vibrant downtown Susukino area, with Odori Park within walking distance, known for hosting various events.
Sapporo, the capital of Hokkaido, is a dynamic city renowned for its picturesque landscapes, fresh seafood, and year-round events like the annual Sapporo Snow Festival. The Hokkaido region has witnessed a surge in popularity among international visitors, with a 40% increase in 2024 compared to 2019. Moreover, international weekly flights to the region exceeded 2019 levels for the first time in the first quarter of 2025.
Apart from standard rooms, Holiday Inn & Suites Sapporo Odori Park will provide suites and various amenities, including meeting spaces, a restaurant, and a public bath on the hotel’s top floor.
IHG Hotels & Resorts manages five hotels in Hokkaido under three brands: Vignette Collection, Crowne Plaza, and Holiday Inn Hotels & Resorts. The group looks forward to introducing the InterContinental brand to the region later this year with the launch of InterContinental Sapporo. In Japan, IHG runs 52 hotels across 10 brands, with 14 more hotels in development.
