On May 13, 2025, the “Hong Kong Cinema @ CANNES 2025” campaign was launched at the Cannes Film Festival in France. The initiative aims to showcase Hong Kong as a hub for international cultural exchange and an intellectual property (IP) trading center in the region. It is set to run until May 24 and is organized by the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDA), the Hong Kong Film Development Council (FDC), and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC).
One of the highlights of the campaign was the Hong Kong Night event held on May 17 at Majestic Beach in Cannes, where over 800 industry professionals gathered to network and explore collaboration opportunities. Notable figures like director Juno Mak and actors Louis Koo and Gao Yuanyuan, known for their work on the film “Sons of the Neon Night,” attended the event.
The Hong Kong Pavilion at Riviera Cannes featured leading film production companies showcasing their current and upcoming titles for international sale. The event received positive feedback from exhibitors, describing it as a remarkable platform for fostering business connections and exploring cross-border collaborations.
In addition to business engagements, the campaign also included seminars and forums discussing the success and future of Asian cinema on a global scale. The activities aimed to promote cultural exchange and enhance industry partnerships, reinforcing Hong Kong’s position as a premier hub for cultural and commercial exchanges.
