Mangwana Responds to Viral Photo of President Mnangagwa in Russia, Denies Sleeping
Government spokesperson Nick Mangwana has addressed online discussions surrounding a photo of President Emmerson Mnangagwa that appeared to show him dozing off during a formal lunch in Russia.
Mnangagwa is currently in Moscow to attend the 80th Victory Day celebrations, a significant event commemorating the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany in World War II. He is participating alongside 29 other world leaders at the prestigious event.
Upon arrival at Moscow’s Vnukovo International Airport, Mnangagwa was warmly welcomed by Russia’s Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister for Africa and the Middle East, Mikhail Bogdanov, and Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Russia, Mark Grey Marongwe. He is accompanied by key officials such as Foreign Affairs Minister Professor Amon Murwira and Finance Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube, as well as Zimbabwean media, including political editor Kuda Bwititi.
To keep the public informed, Information Secretary Nick Mangwana has been sharing updates and photos from the trip. One particular photo he posted, showing Mnangagwa among other leaders at a table with his head slightly bowed and eyes closed, sparked online interest. Mangwana captioned it simply with “80th Anniversary of Victory Day.”
In response to social media comments, Mangwana dismissed the criticism, stating, “You really think he slept at a luncheon? You really have a problem.”
