Outrage sparks as Geza announces indefinite shutdown and calls for free food distribution
Zimbabweans were left shocked, amused, and worried after war veterans leader Blessed “Bombshell” Geza declared a nationwide stay-away shutdown of indefinite duration — and demanded that stores begin distributing food for free.
In a passionate speech widely shared on social media, Geza urged supermarkets and retailers to provide food supplies to the public, assuring them that a future government would reimburse them once President Emmerson Mnangagwa resigns.
He also mentioned that citizens would receive detailed instructions on how and where to collect food during the shutdown.
Geza, a controversial figure known for his militant rhetoric, stated that the shutdown would continue until Zimbabwe establishes a “new government.”
However, while Geza presented the call as a courageous act of civil disobedience, many Zimbabweans swiftly reacted online — labeling his statements as “insanity,” “clownish,” and “playful.”

“Release food supplies from stores”
In the video, Geza urged food stores and supermarkets to immediately cooperate by releasing food supplies to the public.

“Shop owners are advised to document their stock levels in the presence of five senior managers and sign!” the post stated.
“The public will receive instructions on where they can collect their supplies. It’s going to be an extended period.”

Geza additionally alleged that high-ranking officials — such as Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi, Attorney General Virginia Mabhiza, and Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda — are reportedly devising a plan to extend President Mnangagwa’s term until 2030.
According to Geza, this would occur without a referendum, and lawmakers would be granted extensions to their terms as a “reward.”
He accused Mnangagwa’s regime of utilizing corrupt alliances to cling to power and asserted that Zimbabweans have been let down since 2017.
“He’s acting too playfully!”
Reactions to Geza’s announcement varied, with many expressing disbelief, sarcasm, and ridicule.

“He’s too playful!” remarked @MuketsiK in response to the idea of free food.

@ti_zw chimed in:

“We’ll see how it pans out, but Cde Geza lost me when he mentioned an indefinite shutdown, stores giving out free food, and citizens arresting others 🤗.”

Others questioned the rationale behind the demand and the absence of planning regarding food logistics.

“Kkkk, he’s already looking for reasons to act mad, which store gives away food for free?” shared @lthajora16.

@GNyambabvu posted:

“Understood, we grasp who you want to oust and your motivations… but why aren’t we being informed about the intended replacement for the incumbent? There appears to be deliberate deceit regarding a fait accompli.”

@tapiwa_chiriga struck a more resigned note:

“When we labeled this one as a jester, we were advised against mocking people’s efforts and their grand scheme. So well, we wish them the best.”

@lashiasn also added:

Geza’s puppeteers have gone completely insane. They have transformed Bombshell into a comical figure, a caricature. Anyway, as he said; all patriotic food wholesalers must step up and feed those participating in the indefinite stay away. The new government will reimburse them.

“This is absurd” – Social media erupts
Numerous Zimbabweans voiced frustration and apprehension over the feasibility and safety of such requests.

“I’m at a loss for words. We are being led by someone like this,” wrote @shots.

Some drew parallels to imprisoned journalist Blessed Mhlanga, claiming that Geza’s actions had led to repercussions for others.

“Blessed Mhlanga is currently behind bars in Chikurubi because of him and he’s here talking nonsense,” remarked @morrmak.

And in a sarcastic dig, @LouisMusendeki simply responded with multiple laughing emojis:

“😂😂😂😂 Aaaah.”
