Governor Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State inspected a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered vehicle at the Lagos State Energy Summit. These vehicles were converted by the Lagos State Government-owned IBILE Oil and Gas Corporation (IOGC), showcasing the government’s commitment to sustainable transport solutions that aim to reduce emissions and costs. More than 30,000 vehicles have been converted to run on CNG, according to PCNGi.
Governor Sanwo-Olu participated in the inaugural Lagos State Energy Summit, where discussions on the State’s 2030 Energy Vision were held with energy sector policymakers and experts. The inspection of the CNG-powered vehicle at the summit highlights the increasing support for Nigeria’s clean energy transition.
The Lagos State Government’s endorsement of sustainable transport solutions, as emphasized by the gesture at the summit, is praised by the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi). The shift towards CNG is seen as a mainstream choice for a cleaner, more environmentally friendly, and cost-effective future, driven by forward-thinking leadership and a united national vision.
The alignment of state-level leadership with the national energy reform agenda is encouraging. The Conversion Incentive Programme, launched in August 2024, has led to the establishment of over 200 conversion centers nationwide, showing significant progress from the program’s start with just seven centers. The successful conversion of over 30,000 vehicles to CNG is a testament to Nigeria’s commitment to cleaner energy alternatives.
