GNV, an Italian shipping company, has ordered four new LNG-powered RoPax ships from Guangzhou Shipbuilding International (GSI) in China. The construction of the vessels is set to commence in 2026, with the first units expected to be delivered by 2028. These new ships are designed to significantly reduce CO2 emissions by over 50% per unit compared to their predecessors. With a capacity of 2,500 people, over 500 cabins, and 3,500 linear meters of garage space, they will be the largest in the Mediterranean by tonnage at 71,300 tons. This order is part of GNV’s plan to expand its fleet with eight new units between 2025 and 2030. The company is also focusing on modernizing its fleet by utilizing machine learning and predictive models to optimize energy use and fuel consumption.
