Airbase Georgia, a key component of the Georgia World War II Heritage Trail, is highlighted in the May 2025 edition of Georgia Magazine for its role in commemorating Georgia’s more than 300,000 WWII veterans. The article, titled “Georgia’s WWII Heritage Trail Honors State’s Wartime Legacy,” explores how the Trail’s historic sites and museums aim to connect present and future generations with the state’s contributions to World War II. As one of the most popular magazines in Georgia, Georgia Magazine reaches over two million readers monthly.
Ed Coleman, Chair of the Georgia WWII Heritage Trail, expressed that the feature in Georgia Magazine will help more Georgians uncover their ties to the state’s WWII history. CAF Airbase Georgia, stationed in Peachtree City, is a living aviation history hub within the Trail. It boasts a fleet of fully restored WWII aircraft, such as the P-51 Mustang and FG-1D Corsair, which are maintained and flown by volunteers.
Joel Perkins, Leader of Airbase Georgia, stated that their mission is to honor the Greatest Generation by showcasing America’s wartime aviation history. He highlighted the importance of sharing the stories of those who served during WWII, especially as the number of living veterans dwindles.
Airbase Georgia offers various educational programs and activities, including flight demonstrations and living history days. The public is invited to attend an Open House on May 10 to view the collection of WWII aircraft. The Georgia WWII Heritage Trail, launched in 2021, aims to engage the public with Georgia’s WWII narrative through various sites and museums across the state.
