Fetterman’s Support Tanking Among His Fellow Democrats, Poll Shows

An internal poll revealed that Democratic Senator John Fetterman’s popularity is waning among Democratic voters in Pennsylvania. The poll, conducted from Feb. 6 to 11, came out shortly after concerns were raised about Fetterman’s health in a New York Magazine article, which he dismissed as a “one-source hit piece.” Democrats are reportedly exploring rules for the senator’s potential resignation and contemplating replacements, as reported by Politico.

In Pittsburgh, where Fetterman resides, just under half of likely Democratic voters have an unfavorable opinion of him, while 46% view him favorably. In contrast, the state’s Democratic Governor Josh Shapiro enjoys an 82% favorable rating among the same group. The poll also highlighted that Fetterman’s approval ratings are particularly low among progressive Democrats in Pittsburgh.

Fetterman, who previously identified as a progressive, distanced himself from the label in 2023. His voting record has at times diverged from his party, notably when he supported the confirmation of Trump’s Attorney General Pam Bondi. The senator’s stance on issues like immigration and his pro-Israel position have stirred controversy within the Democratic ranks.

While some Democrats have turned against Fetterman, Republican senators like Dave McCormick and Tom Cotton have come to his defense, denouncing the attacks on his character. Fetterman, who was elected in 2022 and faces reelection in 2028, has not responded to requests for comment.
