June 3, 2025

In recognition of National Police Week, Acting U.S. Attorney Richard S. Moultrie, Jr. pays tribute to the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officials at all levels. This year, National Police Week is being observed from Sunday, May 11, 2025, to Saturday, May 17, 2025.

Acting U.S. Attorney Richard S. Moultrie, Jr. stated, “Law enforcement officers bravely and selflessly work to protect our loved ones and communities, often putting their lives on the line. Their dedication and courage, often demonstrated through unheralded acts of service, deserve our appreciation and support.”

Established in 1962 by former U.S. President John F. Kennedy, Peace Officers Memorial Day and National Police Week are dedicated to honoring the service and sacrifices of law enforcement officers. Throughout National Police Week, the nation acknowledges the hard work, devotion, loyalty, and commitment of law enforcement personnel across the country in keeping communities safe.

According to the National Law Enforcement Officer Memorial Fund’s report, 148 officers lost their lives in the line of duty in 2024. In the Northern District of Georgia, seven officers who tragically died in the line of duty over the past year are being remembered, including Deputy Sheriff Eric Anthony Minix from the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office.

Each year, the National Law Enforcement Officer Memorial Fund in Washington, D.C. holds an Annual Candlelight Vigil to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice. The names of fallen officers are inscribed on the Memorial walls, with this year’s 37th annual vigil scheduled for Tuesday, May 13, 2024, at 8 PM. The event will be livestreamed on YouTube and Facebook.
